Busby Ray Sanders of Grand Prairie, TX passed on January 4, 2023, surrounded by the love and comfort of his wife and 2 children.

Busby was born to Shedric and Hattie (Sims) Sanders on April 15, 1955, at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, LA. He was the youngest of 7 children. Growing up in Roseland, LA, Busby hadthe upbringing of most country boys. He spent time building toys with random pieces of wood, working in the fields, andplaying basketball with his brothers. In 1973, Busby, where he served as the senior class president, graduated from Chesbrough High School and upon graduation, decided to attend Grambling College where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Computer Science in December of 1976. While attending GramblingCollege, Busby met his then future wife, LaVerne Newell. Not long after embarking upon a career with ARCO in the January of 1977, Busby asked for her hand and in Aug 11, 1979, the loving couple became one. 

In 1982, the loving couple moved to Denver, Co, where they welcomed their first child, Erica Lynn Sanders in April of 1984.A year later, the young family moved to Grand Prairie, TX, where they welcomed their second child, Busby Ray Sanders III in February of 1995. Busby, who was an amazing father and husband, ensured his family was well provided for. He was loving and supportive and always dedicated his time and energy to his children and wife. He always supported their different avenues of life. He’d lovingly spend countless hours watching basketball, Star Trek, and CNN with his family. His family was indeed his life.  

Busby was also devoted to his alma mater. He quickly embraced his new home in Grand Prairie and became active with the local alumni chapter for Grambling State University. Busby actively served for many years in various roles, most notably, that of Chapter President for the Dallas Alumni Chapter. Through his years of service, he discovered his passion after coordinating the local high school battle of the bands. This passion would lead him to do so every year for the remainder of his life. Busby, being the trailblazer that he was, along with other alum, startedthe Metro DFW Alumni Chapter in 2017. Busby served as the chapter’s inaugural President. Busby dedicated tireless hours of service and commitment to his alma mater and truly showed his appreciation and love for his university.

Through his years, Busby was employed with several other notable companies such as TXU and BNSF Railway forging professional relationship and building friendships that would last a lifetime. He also served on the Board for the Advancial Federal Credit Union. After decades of diligence and hard work, Busby retired in 2017.

Busby is survived by his loving wife LaVerne Sanders, his two children, Erica Lynn and Busby Ray III, his 5 siblings Adean Sanders, Neola Neal, Shedric Sanders, Edward (Brenda) Sanders, and Issac Marc (Tressie) Sanders, honorary son Kendall Tillis, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family.

Busby was preceded in death by his parents, Sedric and Hattie Sanders and his sister Geraldine Sanders.
