Dallas

Roderick Don'ta Gillis, affectionately known as "Hot Rod," passed away on July 7, 2025, in his hometown of Dallas, Texas. Born on September 11, 1983, Roderick was a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend who touched the lives of many during his time on this earth.

Roderick dedicated a significant part of his life to the fast food industry, where he worked at Popeyes Chicken, in addition to several car wash centers. His commitment to hard work was matched only by his infectious personality. Everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him remembers his great sense of humor, his outgoing nature, and his ability to engage with just about anyone. Roderick was a man who never had a bad word to say about anyone, choosing instead to smile through even the toughest of times.

His kindness extended far and wide; he was always willing to lend a helping hand, particularly to the elderly, embodying the true spirit of compassion and generosity. His family and friends can still recall memories of him sitting around playing dominoes, laughing over movies, passionately cheering for his favorite football teams, and indulging in video games—moments that will forever remain etched in their hearts.

Roderick's life was shaped by a strong foundation of love and support from his family. He is survived by his mother, Debra Comeaux, and his step-father, Jeremy Comeaux. His legacy continues with his uncles: Alvin (Brenda) Gillis, Gary (Rhonda) Gillis, Randy Williams, Raymon Gipson, Jimmy Gipson, and Joseph Gipson, as well as his aunts: Annette Williams, Tina Williams, Neicy Williams, Ann Williams, Alice Richardson, Rose Gipson, Vera Littleton, and Arlene Ross. Roderick's vibrant spirit also leaves behind a host of other family members and friends who cherished his presence in their lives.

Though Roderick has departed from this world, he is reunited with those who left before him, including his father, Willie June Williams; his sister, Siann Comeaux; beloved grandparents Pearlene Gipson, Pearlie Mae Gillis, Edward L. Gillis, and Charle R. Jackson; his aunt, Carolyn Gillis; and his cousin, Rickey Gillis, alongside many others who hold a special place in his heart.

As we gather to honor and remember Roderick "Hot Rod" Gillis, let us carry forward his legacy of kindness, laughter, and unwavering support for one another. His spirit will continue to shine brightly in our memories as a reminder to always find joy in life, no matter the circumstances.
