Roy Elmo Young, affectionately known as "Big Cat," was a vibrant soul who brought joy and warmth to everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. Born on May 9, 1964, in Dallas, Texas, Roy spent his life nurturing his passions, whether it was through his dedicated work in building maintenance or his deep love for music. Roy passed away on September 12, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love and laughter.
Throughout his career in building maintenance for several properties, Roy was known for his unwavering dedication and commitment to his work. His bubbly personality shone through, making him not only a diligent worker but also a beloved figure among his colleagues. Not just a builder of structures, he was also a builder of relationships, always bringing kindness and humor wherever he went.
Music was one of Roy's greatest loves. He had an eclectic taste, enjoying everything from country to R&B and jazz. His passion for mixing music brought countless joyful moments to friends and family, as he serenaded gatherings with melodies that uplifted spirits and created lasting memories. But music was not his only love; he was also a skilled cook. The kitchen was his canvas, where he delighted in preparing meals for his wife, Rochelle, often surprising her with delectable dishes that reflected his loving nature.
He carried a playful spirit that made even the simplest moments special. Whether he was indulging in a spirited game of spades or sharing stories about his beloved motorcycles, cars, and trucks, Roy could turn the ordinary into extraordinary. His knack for gathering treasures around him was reminiscent of the great collectors of old, imbuing his home with tales and memories of cherished finds.
Roy's life was rich with pride and purpose. His greatest accomplishment was his unwavering commitment to his wife, Rochelle Taylor Young, with whom he built a beautiful life. The love they shared was a testament to the priority he placed on family. He is survived by his loving companion, Rochelle, along with his children: Brandon (Benitra) Taylor, Brad Taylor, Christopher McQueen, Tanya Davis Hedge, Sasha Young, and Myqueisha Jones. His grandchildren—Dayvion Davis, Dewayne Davis, King Taylor, Kamilah Simpkins, Leader McQueen, and Ja'Mailah Simpkins—were the light of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
Roy is also survived by his dear sisters Karen (Lisa) Young Brown, Shellie Moulton, and Pamela Williams, as well as his brothers Terry Young and William Moulton. The vibrant family he leaves behind also includes nine nieces and nephews, twelve great-nieces and nephews, and a host of friends and loved ones, all of whom will miss him dearly.
Roy was preceded in death by his mother, Catherine Barron, his father, Russell Moulton, his brother, Bruce Young, and his sister, Sherry Tate. Though they are gone, the impact of their lives continues through the love Roy held for them and the lessons shared over the years.
As we gather to celebrate Roy's life, we reflect on the love he gave so freely, his joyful spirit, and the musical notes of his heart that will forever play in our memories. A visitation will be held on September 19, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Eternal Rest Funeral Home in Desoto, TX, followed by a funeral service at the same location on September 20, 2025, at 11:00 AM.
