Sonya Teresa Stephens was born on January 21, 1965 to the union of Margaret J. Stephens and Cornelius Stephens in Jackson, MS.
Sonya began her education in the Jackson, MS school system and completed her education in Dallas, TX. She graduated from Wilmer Hutchins High School. She furthered her education at Eastfield College and other DCCC campuses.
Sonya accepted Christ at a very young age at Pine Grove Baptist Church in Jackson, MS and continued to fellowship at Mesquite Friendship Baptist Church in Mesquite, TX.
Sonya enjoyed helping people in any way that she could and followed a career path at Volunteers of America (VOA) and Nexus Recovery Center for many years. Sonya had a love for music, reading books, dogs and watching her favorite shows. She enjoyed shopping, buying gifts spoiling her family or anyone that she could, especially shopping for the babies in the family, Nevaeh and Kairo. She loved cooking and baking, as she was one of the best cooks on this side of Heaven. Cooking for the holidays was one of her favorite things to do, a passion that she shared with her mother as they cooked together for so many years. She constantly opened her heart and home to anyone in need. She gave so many a place to stay when they needed a bed, whether for one night or one year and expected nothing in return. Sonya was truly an angel on earth and had the biggest heart of pure gold! She gave freely and showed love to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.
